Is the Summer Season Ideal for Plastic Surgery?

By Emel Gerdaneri • Medical review by Emre Gonenc Baygol, MD

Is the Summer Season Ideal for Plastic Surgery?

You may have heard that winter or spring is the best time for plastic surgery. As a matter of fact, plastic surgery is also done in the summer months, why not?

If we look at what those who find the winter months more ideal say, they say that the weather is cold, you will spend a lot of time inside and you can cover up. We asked this subject to  Plastic Surgeon Emre Gonenc Baygol MD:
Emre Gonenc Baygol MD“Of course, plastic surgery can be done in any season. In fact, winter is a pretty busy time in most people's lives. Summer, on the other hand, is a much more relaxed season for many.

In the summer, things slow down and the kids are on vacation. For this and a few other reasons, it may be worth considering plastic surgery in the summer rather than the winter, spring, or fall.

You Can Evaluate Your Annual Leave

annual leaveIf you decide to use your two-week vacation time in the summer, it's a sensible time to recover from surgery.

The children are also not at school during the summer, and they can help you with simple household chores during the recovery period.

Summer is also an ideal time for people who have to work during the school year. For example, if you're a teacher, you have about three months to recover from surgery before the school year begins.

The season can also be ideal for young people who are considering ear surgery or rhinoplasty because they will recover without missing school days.

Preparation For Vacation Before Summer Comes

summerThe benefits of having breast surgery or tummy tuck surgery these days before summer comes is that you have time to recover to capture the bikini body.

Some people like the hot and humid days of summer. Others prefer to spend the whole day in an air-conditioned environment.

If you fall into the latter category, it makes a lot of sense to schedule your surgery for the hottest season of the year.

You don't like to lie down by the pool or on the beach anyway, so you can make the most of the recovery process of your surgery by resting indoors by setting the air conditioner to the coolest temperature.

Things to Keep in Mind During the Summer

summerIf you're planning a surgery for June, July, or August, there are a few precautions to keep in mind. One is to be especially careful about sun exposure.

We have to protect our skin from the sun's rays regularly, but it is especially important to do this after surgery. The sun's UV rays can make surgical scars darker, which most people don't want.

Heat can also make edema worse after surgery. No matter how tempting it is to relax by the pool or sunbathe outside for the first few weeks after surgery, it's best to stay in an air-conditioned environment.“
