FUE, DHI and Others… Which Hair Transplantation Technique Is Most Suitable For You?

The development of plastic surgery treatments along with technology has led to the emergence of many techniques, especially in hair transplantation.

ClinicExpert explains 8 different techniques successfully applied today and their details:

“As a matter of fact, hair transplantation has been serving the same basic knowledge since the 1990s. We transfer the hair follicles we take from the donor area, which is not affected by the androgen hormone, to the bald area.

The contribution of technology to us has been with the hair transplant devices, tools and medical drugs used.

Basically, as we said, we perform the same procedure, using much more comfortable tools and equipment, aiming that the patient can achieve much better results and feel better in the process.

Let's take a look at these 8 different applications together:

1- Unshaven Hair Transplantation (Hair Transplantation with DHI Technique):

DHIUnshaven hair transplant is a hair transplant with a tool called an Implanter (Choi) pen. The advantage of the pen is that there is no need for hair shaving and it allows the operation to be completed in a shorter time.

Hair follicles taken from the donor area are transplanted directly to the area to be transplanted with the help of a pencil, without waiting.

Thus, the hair transplantation process is completed in a shorter time. The tip of the Choi pen is cylindrical and has sharp tips.

Choi pen opens micro channels in the area to be planted and moves along these channels by planting hair follicles.

The most difficult process in the DHI technique is to place the hair follicles one by one into the pen. It places the hair follicles in the reservoir of the pen at an angle of 45 degrees.

On average, between 2-6 Choi pens and 16 nibs connected to this pen are used during the operation.

Advantages of the DHI method:

  • With this method, there is no need to preserve the hair follicles and the process can be completed in a shorter time.

  • After the operation, the patient recovers in a shorter time and can return to his daily life.

  • Hair does not need to be shaved.

  • Hair follicles taken from the donor area are more likely to survive.

  • Since the incision area is smaller, less bleeding occurs.

2- FUE Hair Transplant

FUEIt is the most applied method in Turkey and in the world. Hair follicles taken from the nape area are separated and preserved.

Hair follicles are transplanted into the channels opened in the area to be transplanted with the help of a special injector.

Except for FUT hair transplantation, FUE is used on the basis of all other hair transplantation procedures.

3- FUT Hair Transplant

FUTThe FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method was discovered in the 90s and was quite popular for a while. In this method, hair follicles are collected from the nape area.

However, the process of collecting hair follicles in this method is different from other methods. The area where the hair follicles to be taken from the nape area are located is cut together with a piece of skin in strips of 15 x 2 centimeters.

The hair follicles on the piece of skin taken from the nape area are separated. The hair follicles extracted with the help of special injectors are placed in the channels opened in the area where the hair will be transplanted.

Today, it has been replaced by the FUE method, as it causes deformation in the nape area and shows late healing.

4- PRP Supported Hair Transplantation

prpIt is the process of applying a certain amount of blood taken from the patient to the area where the hair is sparse, passing through special processes. 10-12 milliliters of blood is taken from the patient.

The collected blood is separated by microfiltration and centrifugation. In the separation process, platelets and white blood cells, which are rich in material, are used.

Separated blood plasma applied to sparse areas helps revitalize the tissues there. It also prevents hair loss to some extent.

However, this method can never replace hair transplantation.

5- Robotic Hair Transplant

robotic hair transplantRobot technology, which is frequently used in surgical applications around the world, has also started to be preferred in hair transplantation applications.

The robotic hair transplant method is the same as the FUE method. It is performed by performing many operations in the FUE method with the help of a robot.

The process of opening channels and transplanting donor hair into the opened channels is done with the help of robots.

The ability to collect the strongest roots and the placement of the collected roots with zero error has made the robotic hair transplant application popular.

6- Hair Transplantation with IceGraft Method

icegreftIt is the type of FUE method applied with a different technique. Hair follicles collected as donors in the IceGraft method can be stored for a long time with the help of a special solution.

The solution called Icegraft consists of powerful antioxidant and nourishing minerals. Advantages of the solution:

  • To prevent cell loss,

  • Hair follicles can be preserved for a long time, such as 6 hours,

  • Maintaining the vitality of tissues,

  • Protection of hair follicles against external factors,

  • Preventing free radicals harmful to hair follicles.

7- Gold Hair Transplant

gold hairIt is also called FUE Gold hair transplantation. The fact that the tips of the instruments used in the FUE technique are covered with gold has made the name of the method gold-tipped hair transplantation. Gold is an element that is compatible with the human body.

Using gold-tipped instruments in the FUE hair transplant technique:

  • It prevents microorganisms that may occur while the roots are placed.

  • It provides better adhesion of the hair root.

  • It prevents grafts from being damaged during planting.

  • Gold-tipped instruments do not damage the scalp during the procedure.

  • The recovery process is faster after gold-tipped hair transplantation.

  • After the procedure, slight crusting occurs on the scalp. These crusts pass in a short time.

8- Percutaneous Hair Transplant

percutaneousIt is a method that is rarely used in the world. Special and round-tipped needles are used in percutaneous select planting. Holes are drilled at different angles for each hair follicle.

The holes opened are almost specific to each hair follicle and they are opened so that the hair follicle can fully enter. It is laborious and more expensive than other methods.

In this method, the recovery time is faster than other methods. However, it is not completed in one session. Up to 1400 hair follicles are planted in 1 day.

Percutaneous hair transplantation is completed in a maximum of 2 days. Transplantation of hair follicles is completed in 2 sessions in total.

As ClinicExpert, we believe that personalized technique and planning come first. For this reason, we would like to draw attention once again to the importance of being examined in order to choose the technique and determine the appropriate one.

After the examination, we recommend the DHI PRO hair transplantation technique to our patients at a rate of 95%, because we observe that this technique gives better results than transplantation with other techniques.”
