What Are Caffeinated Shampoos?

after hair transplantCaffeine shampoos are hair cleansing products that contain caffeine as the common chemical compound. It is often found in shampoos as a component of coffee bean extract.

According to the results of research on shampoos with caffeine: they reduce hair loss while keeping your hair clean and healthy. Caffeine penetrates the skin easily, so applying it directly to your scalp will help it reach the hair follicles.

What is the Difference Between Caffeinated Shampoo and Caffeinated Lotion?

hair lotionWhile caffeinated shampoos are the most popular caffeinated hair products, caffeinated hair lotions are also available.

Like hair masks, lotions are designed to stay on longer to absorb caffeine into the scalp. Caffeinated shampoos, meanwhile, usually only need to be applied for a few minutes.

Caffeine For Hair: What's The Science Behind It?

caffeineAndrogenetic, commonly known as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness Alopecia is the main cause of hair loss in people of all genders.

It is estimated that around 80% of men and 55% of women will experience hair loss by the age of 80.

Androgenetic effects of caffeinated shampoos, lotions, treatments, or hair products. reveals that it can be effective in reversing alopecia.

In fact, research is still ongoing as to whether it has a comparable effect to medicated hair growth treatments like Minoxidil.

Caffeine can reduce hair loss in several ways:

  • Naturally counteracts the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) , a hormone that affects your genes to suppress hair growth

  • Lowers TGF-β2 protein levels and increases IGF-1 hair growth regulator to promote hair growth

  • By protecting the outer root sheath of your hair, it prevents hair damage and breakage.

However, most of the evidence examining the effects of caffeine on hair loss is based on highly controlled laboratory studies rather than real-life patient analyzes.

Well, we don't know exactly if these promising results can really help people with hair loss.

Do Caffeinated Shampoos Prevent or Reduce Hair Loss?

hair lossVivo studies on the effects of caffeine treatments on real hair loss patients, we can say that they can help reduce hair loss.

Three separate studies, regular caffeinated shampoo use (at least 6 months) androgenetic found that it reduced hair loss in patients with alopecia. Hair shafts were stronger and thicker after 6 months of use.

In a female-focused study, less hair was lost in the hair pull test, indicating that the follicles were more easily able to shed hair following a caffeinated shampoo treatment.

And it's not just hair loss that caffeine shampoo can be effective at. Another study found telogen, a type of hair loss caused by trauma, stress, or emotional shock.

Evaluated the effects in women with effluvium. Results were similar for this type of hair loss.

Other types of hair loss, such as alopecia areata, have not been studied in relation to caffeine hair loss products.

However, another study on patients with nonspecific, self-thinning hair found an increase in total hair count following caffeinated shampoo treatment.

However, these results are very promising, especially for hair loss patients who are in the early stages of hair loss. Hair loss prevention is usually easier than reversing hair loss.

Can Drinking Coffee Help With Hair Loss?

coffeeDrinking coffee is unlikely to stimulate your follicles in the same way as a topical application of caffeine. But drinking a daily cup of coffee, green tea, or black tea can have some hair-related benefits.

Oxidative stress can cause premature hair loss by accelerating the aging process. As a rich source of antioxidants, coffee can help reduce oxidative stress and minimize the effect on your hair.
