No matter your age, culture or what lifestyle you have, rhinoplasty is one of the most desired surgery. Well, is there a limit to being too young or too old for rhinoplasty? The ideal age to have rhinoplasty, the recovery and risks of rhinoplasty operations at different ages, ENT Specialist Ebru Topuz MD explains:
“Although there is no exact age for rhinoplasty, the ideal age range is 18-40 years. We can say that individuals develop in terms of physical and maturity at this age range and their skin still maintains its youthful elasticity. This flexibility makes it easier to make changes and heal, while minimizing the risk of complications. While this age range is ideal, people who are older or younger can still be great candidates for this procedure. It needs to take into account the additional issues I just mentioned. Also, family approval is required for rhinoplasty performed before the age of 18.
Among young people considering rhinoplasty, the main limiting factor is not age, but the fact that the nose has reached full adult size. We get the best rhinoplasty results from noses that have fully grown. In fact, most surgeons do not want to operate on people who have not reached 90% of adult growth, as this will affect the results. Girls tend to develop slightly faster than boys, so they can get rhinoplasty when they're younger than boys. I recommend waiting for the age of 15-16 for rhino job. For men, this age is 17-18. The exact correct age also varies from person to person, regardless of gender. Nose formation is not the only thing to consider for young rhinoplasty candidates. It is also important to consider the maturity of the individual. It is also necessary to look at whether it is mature enough to cope with this change, which is extremely important. Every doctor observes this during the examination and reaches a conclusion with the answers he receives from the questions he asks.
Most rhinoplasty patients over the age of 40 have been considering this procedure for years. There is no upper age limit for this procedure, but it should be noted that the recovery period is usually longer for older patients. The incisions do not heal as quickly, the edema passes more slowly, and the skin cannot recover as quickly as before. All of the above factors affect not only your recovery but also your results. That's why it's important to choose a surgeon who is experienced in working with aging skin. In addition, the risk of anesthesia increases with age. Our bodies, medications, and conditions can expose us to a greater risk of anesthesia complications over time. For some, this may be a limiting factor preventing them from having surgery. But for most patients, it just means taking extra precautions.”
